Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA

The Y’s Independence Day 5K is more than a race, it's a fun way to help give working parents access to reliable, high-quality childcare, provide kids with life-saving water safety skills, and support teens with positive mentors and a safe space to grow. In 2025, more than 800 runners of all ages and abilities showed up to participate and helped raise more than $30,000 to support local kids and families. Come join the fun and help support a good cause by volunteering! The 5K starts and finishes at the Mt. Trashmore Family YMCA in Virginia Beach.Volunteers arrive and check in by 6:00 AM (authorities close the streets at 6:30 AM). The race kicks off at 7:30 AM and is followed by a Tot Trot (1/4 mile) for kids at 9am. Choose from a variety of volunteer roles. Youth younger than 14 may volunteer in some roles with a parent.
